Abel Grimmer's Twelve Months and Four Seasons: towards the Clarification of a Bruegel Dilemma
The five surviving depictions of the Months are among the most important works by Pieter Bruegel. By comparing them with the works of Bruegel's follower Abel Grimmer, the author of the study comes to the conclusion that the cycle originally included six paintings, each of which depicted two months. From this perspective, one can interpret the famous The Haymakers painting in the National Gallery in Prague as a depiction of June and July.
