The Architects Have Overslept: Space As a Construct of Art Historians, 1888-1914
The article deals with a debate on the term of space in art history and in architectonic thought. It brings evidence of the importance of the late 19th century, when German-speaking art historians and theoreticians, whether Heinrich Wölfflin and his pupils or Alois Riegl, were trying to grab space on the terminological level. In the Czech lands, important contributions to this issue were made later by Vojtěch Birnbaum and Václav Richter.
