Thus far, the origin of the well known Thun collection has been linked with Michael Osvald Thun and his younger brother Maximilian. This date is pushed back earlier on the basis of a hitherto unknown list of the movables of their father, Count Jan Sigmund Thun (1594-1646). The publication of documents from the period, in particular the list of paintings in the estate of Count František Josef Thun, sheds more light on the Thun collections.
