Waburg's Intuitions in Light of Postmodern Challenges

The article deals with the relationship between the current literary and art-historical theory and Warburg's iconographic method. In the first part, it focuses on the metamorphoses of iconography and iconology in the Anglo-American science in the last several decades as against the situation in methodology in Central and Eastern Europe. The second part observes those aspects and interpretations of Warburg's work which have become topical for the current theory of art.
