The article concentrates on the Gothic phase of construction of the Meissen Cathedral in the context of Central German cathedral architecture (Magdeburg, Naumburg). In addition, it points out connections with Bohemian architecture, in particular the Cistercian monastery at Osek and the court art of Peter Parler. It also treats the important territorial and religious-political influences on the construction of the Meissen Cathedral.
