Albrecht Dürer's Lamentation from The Small Passion
The subject of the article is Dürer's engraving Lamentation from the Small Passion, the roots of which can be found in the northern, Dutch and even Central European region. The author compares the engraving, marked by a spatial ambiguity, with related works - for example with the works of the painter's students Hans Schäuflein and Hans Baldung Grien. He explains the ambiguous character of Dürer's works from this time by the painter's orientation toward the visual experience of the average viewer and the attempt to make these works "usable " for being copied in various media.
