Jan Chlíbec
Toskánské bohemikum
The author of the study concentrates on the penetration of international Gothic art into Tuscany, whose cities were politically and economically connected with the transalpine courts. One of the artists who spread these influences into the Florentinian environment was the sculptor Piero di Giovanni Tedesco, who lived for some time in the Burgundy and Franco-Flemish region. Aside from this, the author also considers the artist's discovery - by way of Ghiberti - of the art of beautiful composition and its influence on sculpture. He also devotes some attention to the connections between Tuscan cities and the Czech Lands, which originate from the 1330s. This relationship is evidenced by the beautifully formed station of the Madonna in the church of S. Paolino e Donato in Lucca, a Czech work from around 1400.
