The article looks at František Lothar Ehemant (1748-1782) and his influence on the emergence of art history as a scholarly discipline. It considers his activities, which were often connected with his interest in Gothic art. As well as analysing Ehemant's publications, it also treats his methodological premises. In this connection, it draws attention to Ehemant's original application of Winckelmann's scheme of development in his interpretation of the genesis of Czech art.
