The Baroque renovation of the old Episcopal Cathedral of St Stephen in Passau was one of the outstanding achievements of the architect Carlo Lurago (1615-1684), who played an important role in the early Baroque period in Prague. The article treats the circumstances of this renovation, initiated by Bishop Václav (Wenzel) Thun after his appointment in 1664. It also draws attention to later buildings that were inspired by this design.
