Painting Lessons and Students´ Associations: School´s Out
The text offers an interpretation of themes of instruction at school, taking in a wide range from the work of Jan Steen to the painting of Peter Tillberg and the photography of David Williams. Looking at selected works, the author examines how transformations in the conception and perception of education in the modern era were reflected in depictions of the teaching process. The author demonstrates the extent to which the image of school is determined by the image of contemporary society.
