Crucifixus dolorosus: Zur Forschungslage und zur Begriffsbestimmung, mit einem Exkurs zum späten Michelangelo
A recent change in the dating of a famous crucifix from St Maria in Kapitol Church in Cologne provoked new reflections on the whole group of these preserved works and on the exact definition of the term "painful crucifix", whose origin, according to the author of the article, must be examined in relation to the activity of flagellant brotherhoods. The tradition of these crucifixes was continued by Michelangelo's late work, as the attached digression shows.
