Jan Bažant
The Prague Belveder, Emperor Ferdinand I and Jupiter
The article treats the political aspects of the Prague Belvedere, which was constructed in 1537-1563 according to designs by Paolo della Stella and Bonifác Wohlmut. It demonstrates that the building constitutes an example of ideologically engagé architecture. In its architectural form, based on the design of the classical villa, and in its sculptural decoration, it represented the ideals of the person who commissioned it, Ferdinand I.
