The article treats the deconstruction of the myth of imaginative art and vision, thereby opening the way to the functional use of the term 'imagination' in discourse about the genesis and perception of artworks. Attention is focused in particular on new findings about the functioning of the human mind and brain in connection with contemporary theory of vision.
