Architecture as a Mise-en-scene of Power: the Týn Church of the Virgin Mary in Prague in the Pre-Hussite Period
The article treats the architecture of the Prague Church of the Virgin Mary before Týn (Teynkirche) in the wider social context. On the basis of archival documents, the author concludes that, in addition to its basic role as a municipal parish church, the Týn church was also an expression of the power and wealth of the group of mainly German-speaking patricians who lived nearby in the Old Town. This circumstance was reflected in the grandiose architecture of the building and in its decoration.
