In the work of Emil Filla, the landscapes of the České středohoří (Czech low mountain range), made at the end of the artist's life in 1947-1952, occupy a special place. The study interprets these works in the context of contemporary social and political events. It demonstrates that one cannot identify the paintings with socialist realism; rather, they represent the antithesis of the official art of that period.
