The study aims at explaining the origin of the tower of the Freiburg Dome, focusing on the dating of the beginning, end, and supposed suspension of construction work, for which there are no direct sources and which is still subject to discussion. Besides, the study deals with the relationship between the octagon of the tower and the late gothic choir in terms of style.
